On a
study abroad trip to Spain?
To five
sunny spots in the middle of May
That we
walked around and explored both night and day.
We
started out in Madrid and mastered the metro.
Visiting
gardens, shops, and Museo de Prado.
Retiro Park
had vendors, rowboats, fountains, paths - all so pretty!
Led us
to Puerta de Alcalá, the gateway to the city!
We took
a train to Seville where we went to their April Fest at night
Also a
flamenco show and bell tower of great height!
We
adored this city, as our friendships grew stronger.
Departing
in only two days, we wished to stay longer!
But, our
next stop awaited in Cordoba, one of the hot spots!
Where we
toured through the famous mosque and patio contest lots.
Meeting
exotic friends at the zoo and strolling the crooked streets
Surviving
the ninety-degree days with plenty of ice cream treats.
Granada,
known for the Alhambra and gardens on the hill,
Attracted
many tourists to this city; we partook in this thrill.
Spending
three days riding buses, getting lost, tapas hopping,
Meeting other
abroad students, finding hidden gems, gift shopping.
Our
final destination was Barcelona on the country’s eastern tip
Home of
Gaudi’s architecture, Las Ramblas and a soccer championship
Seeing Sagrada
Familia, Casa Mila, and Parc Güell, too.
Made me
want to return to the city by the bay some day soon.
What did
I discover from this trip across the Atlantic Ocean?
The
Spaniards take it slower than the American locomotion.
They
take time to socialize, relax, and enjoy other’s company,
Appreciate
the arts and history that makes up their society.
Spain
beckons my heart to return in a future trip overseas.
To the
country with sunny skies, countless festivals, and orange trees!
Reading this made me want to go back to Spain, Sara. I like your mention of Gaudi, Las Ramblas, and Parc Guell, names that evoke vivid memories and images. Do you think you'll go back one day?
